Center for Global Humanities

"A public forum dedicated to the study of human destiny in the 21st century," this center hosts a number of lectures and events concerning global citizenship.  Recently lectures were given on “How Climate Change is Reshaping Maine’s Ocean Economy"  In Septmember there will be a lecture on "Muslim Fashion and Global Politics."  UNE now has 2 international campuses, in Spain and also Morocco!

World Affairs Council of Maine

The World Affairs Council of Maine works to connect our state with the world and to develop global citizens.  They host a number of events and gatherings including but not limited to: The International Breakfast Series- focused on International Trade, monthly luncheon speakers on a variety of interntional topics, Great Decisions Dinners and the World Quest competition.  GNGHS sent 2 student teams and a teacher team to the 2016 World Quest competition. 

University of Southern Maine - Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute is focused on increasing access to education regarding Chinese language, culture and history, with the goal of increasing relations between Maine and China.  The institute works with local schools as well as individual students providing scholarships for international travel for teachers and students.  They also sponsor Chinese cultural events such as festivals, lectures and performances.

Seeds of Peace

The Seeds of Peace Camp is in Maine, hosting youth from the Middle East, UK and US to train to be leaders to work towards peace in their communities. 

Model United Nations (MeMUNC)

USM hosts a 3 day Model UN conference for 5-12th grade students each spring.  Last year over 500 student delegates were in attendance.  GNGHS sent our first delegation of students in 2015. Much of our delegates training has been "gamified" and is done on their own time in the 3dgamelab.  It is our hope that we will have our first Middle School Delegates join our GNG group starting spring of 2017.
